Praising Children
Let your child decide
Ask your child how they want you and their other supporters to praise them when they practice their new skill, and also when they successfully demonstrate it.
Sometimes children are uncomfortable about being praised in public. In such cases it can be easier for them if you offer praise in a less obvious manner, such as by using a previously-agreed hand gesture or facial expression. Another good alternative is to work out a way of recording successes, and agree with them how they would like to receive further encouragement once they have reached an agreed milestone.
