Recruiting Supporters
Ask your child to select their supporters
To learn new skills, children need help and support. Ask your child who they would like to invite as supporters. Encourage them to name both adults and children because a child’s peers, especially those who are somewhat older than them, can be very influential. Discuss how they would like their supporters to help them and the best ways of making the invitations.
Many ways of helping
Supporters can help and support a child in multiple ways. They can, for example:
- help children understand why acquiring a specific skill is important
- admire a child when they are practicing their new skill or making good progress
- provide concrete help when children are practicing newly-acquired skills
- remind them in gentle ways when they occasionally forget a skill they have learned.
