Planning Celebrations
Let the child decide
Ask the child if they want to celebrate in some way when they have learned the skill. Let the child decide – as much as possible – where, how and with whom to celebrate learning. Celebration does not mean rewarding the child with a present but gathering together and doing something fun with supporters to mark the child’s achievement of learning an important skill.
Motivation and confidence
Children enjoy planning how to celebrate when they have learned their skill. Planning ahead in this way adds to the child’s motivation to learn skill while also boosts the child’s confidence that he or she will be able to learn the skill.
